Spotlight Project

In the summer of 2022, I was granted an internship at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park to gain experience in the field of cultural resource management. I was originally tasked with undertaking the continuation of the cataloguing from the 1930s excavations done at Ocmulgee, however, as a direct result of this excavation, I was thrust into a fast-paced, problem-solving environment in which we had to think critically and act quickly to preserve the historical integrity of the Park. During my 3-month internship, I cataloged two separate collections, participated in two emergency excavations in which numerous historical artifacts were discovered, sat in on meetings regarding repatriation of artifacts, and assisted with other collections management-related duties. Click the link below to read how my internship work at Ocmulgee is but a small example of the issues cultural resource managers face today!
