Latin, Epigraphy, and Roman Culture

In this class, students learned the basic foundation of Latin through lectures and weekly workbook assignments and studied ancient graffiti and other epigraphy from Pompeii. Each week students shared their favorite examples and discussed the impact it had on the way scholars study Latin. Students also wrote multiple op-eds on how the epigraphy related to current events in today's society, showing that the people today still face the same issues and share similar viewpoints as our ancestors. In these five op-eds, I analyze and give my thoughts on various graffiti found on walls and stones in Pompeii and see how they relate to modern-day perspectives and concerns,
Each student had weekly assignments in the Latin workbook that helped us with grammar and vocabulary. Here are some examples of my work.
